🌄 The Enchanting Oriental Terraces of Machu Picchu Will Soon Welcome Visitors! 🇵🇪✨

Great news for those planning to travel to Peru! In just one year, a spectacular new section of the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park will become part of the official tourist circuit: the breathtaking Oriental Terraces (Andenes Orientales). 🌿🔓

According to Fernando Astete, head of the Machu Picchu Park, this hidden gem—long overlooked—is finally receiving the attention it deserves. Although the area began to be cleared in the 1980s, it was mistakenly believed to be of minor agricultural importance. “We were wrong,” says archaeologist Piedad Champi, who now leads the restoration of this extraordinary Inca site. 🛠️📜

🚶‍♂️ The trail to the Oriental Terraces begins along a lesser-known path connecting Aguas Calientes to the citadel. Hidden behind thick vegetation and an old, weathered gate, lies a world waiting to be rediscovered:
✨ Over 3 hectares (7.4 acres) of ancient terraces, ceremonial fountains, water canals, native flora and fauna, and segments of original Inca trails—all clinging to the steep mountainside like a suspended garden in the clouds.

Archaeologists have divided the site into five sectors, each positioned at different altitudes to create unique microclimates. The first and most striking is called “Catarata” (Waterfall), named for its cascading terraces that appear to spill down the cliffside like flowing water. 💧🌱

This incredible area adds yet another layer of depth and wonder to the experience of Machu Picchu tours, offering visitors a more immersive glimpse into the sophistication of Inca engineering and their deep respect for nature.

So when you visit Peru, make sure to explore beyond the iconic Sun Gate and Temple of the Sun—because treasures like the Oriental Terraces are what make trips to Peru truly unforgettable. 🦙🧭
