This event is compared to the “Tourism Oscar” and this year it was held in Portugal, where Peru was awarded with the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction and World’s Leading Culinary Destination awards.

Unforgettable moments at the 25th edition of the World Travel Awards

The jurors were expert critics, international tourists and world-renowned opinion leaders. They consider different aspects to choose the world’s leading tourist destinations.

The winners are chosen through an online vote, where businessmen, professionals and travel experts in tourism voted for Machu Picchu and Peru, over multiple destinations in the 5 continents.

Thus, Machu Picchu, Cusco, was in the eyes of the world and the most prestigious international media.

The citadel of Machu Picchu was declared Wonder of the World on July 7, 2007, and since then it has remained one of the most amazing tourist destinations in the world.

Machu Picchu is located on the Sacred Valley of the Incas at 2430 meters above sea level. It was a place where the sun god was worshipped and astronomical events were observed.
