It’s been a great year for Peruvian gastronomy, between the various initiatives for its promotion and acknowledgement as one of the many unique experiences that Peru can offer to the world. Among them we can highlight Mistura, a gastronomical fair; the World Travel Award for Lead Culinary Destination of South America , the awarded documentary Peru Sabe (a play on words meaning both Peru Knows and Peru Tastes), and Forbes magazine naming Peruvian gastronomy as one of top 10 food trends for 2012 in the United States.
Mistura is the most important gastronomical fair in South America, on its sixth edition brought in almost 25 000 tourists both local and foreign, and brought together restaurants, cooks, pastry chefs, farmers, culinary institutes, among many other members of this wonderful network that gastronomy builds. The success of this fair shows the amazing potential of Peruvian cuisine as a major drawn and capable to enamor the most demanding palates.
Additionally, the World Travel Awards, which acknowledge and award the excellence in all sectors of the travel and tourism industry named Peru Lead Culinary Destination of South America of 2012. It is worth mentioning that for these awards travel agents from all over the world vote and pick their favorites on each category, so it is quite an honor.
Then we have the documentary “Peru Sabe: cuisine as a social weapon”, which shows the phenomenon that is Peruvian gastronomy in the hands of one of its greatest representatives, Gaston Acurio, and renowned Spanish chef, Ferran Adrià, and how cuisine is being used to motivate a change of attitude to the possibilities and opportunities that represent in a country with such privileged cuisine as Peru is, promoting its social and economic development.
Finally, Forbes magazine has included the Peruvian cuisine as one of the top 10 food trends of 2012 in the United States. The rising amount of restaurants offering Peruvian food has opened the doors for thousands of foodies that are looking for new experiences, to be amazed with the eclectic Peruvian cuisine, its diverse influences, variety of ingredients and, most of all, its delicious flavor.
These are only four examples of the power of the Peruvian gastronomy to catch the eye (and palate) of the world. However, don’t just take our word for it, venture to experience it first hand, and the diverse yet unique flavors that only Peruvian cuisine can offer.
