According to the popular beliefs from the jungle of Peru, the Tunchi is a lost spirit of someone who died in the jungle, who is damned to wander around the depths of the jungle and the darkness of the night.
Is said that the Tunchi follows the same path they did during their earthly life. The Tunchi announces its presence with a weak sound and then comes closer.
This hair rising sound has a very high pitch, and produces chills down the spine.
Is also said that the Tunchi is a guardian of the jungle and won’t harm those that respect the flora and fauna. However, those who damage the jungle by cutting its trees of killing its animals will face its fury.
